Overview
The Ab Tuck with Twist on Slide Board is a dynamic core exercise that adds a rotational challenge to traditional ab tucks. Performed from a high plank position with both feet on a slide board, the athlete drives the knees diagonally toward the elbows in an alternating fashion to engage the obliques and challenge total core control.
Muscles Worked
PRIMARY:
Rectus abdominis
Obliques
SECONDARY:
Transverse abdominis
Hip flexors
Shoulders (isometric support)
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Begin in a strong high plank position with both feet on a slide board and arms planted firmly on the ground or stable surface.
Keep your body aligned from head to heels and engage your core.
Slide both feet in diagonally toward your right elbow in a twisting, oblique-focused motion.
Extend your legs back out to the starting plank position.
Repeat the same motion toward your left elbow.
Continue alternating sides, keeping the movement slow, controlled, and intentional throughout.
Benefits
Engages deep core musculature with an added rotational challenge
Strengthens obliques and promotes transverse plane control
Enhances shoulder and scapular stability
Improves coordination and control under dynamic tension
COACHING CUES
Slide in like you’re aiming your knees at your opposite elbow
Twist through the trunk, not just the hips
Keep your plank tight-avoid dropping your hips
Exhale as you crunch, inhale as you extend
Notes
The Ab Tuck with Twist on Slide Board is ideal for targeting rotational core strength and stability. This movement trains functional control in the transverse plane, making it a powerful addition to any athletic core routine.
